Ingredients (Makes 6 servings):

3 fillets of smoked mackerel – skinned, boned and flaked

2 crisp eating apples – peeled cored and chopped

Fresh lemon juice

Ground black pepper

350g (12ozs) cream cheese beaten till smooth

Oatcakes to serve


  1. Beat the cream cheese in a deep bowl till smooth.
  2. Add the apple and smoked mackerel and mix together with a squeeze of lemon juice and ground black pepper to taste.
  3. Serve on oatcakes.
  4. Can be kept chilled in the fridge overnight.

Suggested Accompaniments:

Good with oatcakes or crusty bread and also great served alongside a fresh green salad with watercress, rocket, celery etc.
